How to Restore Old Task Manager on Windows 11

Microsoft has redesigned the interface of some managers in Windows 11, including the Task Manager interface. However, not everyone likes this new Task Manager interface. If users want to return to the old Task Manager interface on Windows 11, just create a small command on the computer. Below is a guide to return to the Task Manager interface on Windows 11.

Instructions for installing the old Task Manager on Windows 11

1. Press the Win + R key combination to open the Run dialog box and enter the command taskmgr -d to launch Task Manager without the new XAML user interface.

2. Then you will see the old Task Manager interface on Windows 11 as shown below.

Pin Old Task Manager to Start Menu

If you want to launch the old Task Manager more easily, you can pin it to the Start menu on Windows 11.

1. Open the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder, right-click taskmgr.exe, and select Pin to Start from the context menu that appears.

Note: You may need to show file extensions to find it in the folder.pin taskmgr.exe to start

2. Once you complete the steps, press the Windows key to open the Start menu and click the Taskmgr icon from the menu.taskmgr on Start menu windows 11

Now, it’s important to mention that you can’t use the new Task Manager and the classic version simultaneously. You can only use one instance at a time, so you’ll want to decide before launching either version. If you prefer the old version, it’s probably best to create a shortcut that you can easily access to open it.
