Mouse Pointer Keeps Changing to an Arrow With a Vertical Scroll Bar [Solution]

In this article, we will see how to deal with the problem where the mouse pointer keeps changing to an arrow with a vertical scroll bar. Usually, the arrow with a vertical scroll bar appears on the screen when you press the mouse scroll wheel or the middle mouse button. It lets users scroll the page by moving their mouse up and down without using the scroll wheel. This arrow icon can be reset easily by clicking anywhere on the screen. But for some users, the mouse pointer changes into the arrow with a vertical scroll bar frequently and they have to open their mouse properties in order to reset it. After a few minutes of resetting it, the problem appears again. On the other hand, some users have reported that the problem appears only while typing.

As described earlier, it is the middle mouse click that changes the mouse pointer into an arrow with a vertical scroll bar. Before you try the following suggestions, click anywhere on your screen and see if the problem disappears. Also, check if the problem appears again by itself. If yes, try the following solutions.

If you open Windows 11/10 Settings, you will not find this tool there. Hence, you have to run the following command in the Command Prompt to open this tool.

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
