How to Enable or Disable Snap Layouts on Windows 11

In Windows 11, Microsoft has made the Windows snap feature more obvious and robust. Windows 11 snap layouts let you easily snap a window to a specific area by hovering on the maximize button and clicking where the window wants to go. If you’re a power user, however, this feature may be more a nuisance than an aid. As a result, today we’re going to show you how to disable Windows snap layouts on the maximize button.

One of the most exciting features made available on Windows 11 is Snap Layouts. These snap layouts will give you a visual aid and help you automatically resize and arrange the windows open on your screen.

In Windows 11, when you hover your mouse over the minimize/maximize button on an app window, you see various Snap layout options. If you find these annoying, you can turn them off, and we’ll show you how.

Snap Layouts is a feature in Windows 11 to quickly move your app windows around. When you hover over the minimize/maximize button on an app window and select a layout from the menu, your app window follows that layout and changes its position on the screen.

Enable/Disable Snap Layouts On Windows 11

A. Via Settings

1. Right-click on the Start Menu and select Settings.

2. Select System in the left pane. Scroll down until you see the Multitasking, and click or tap on it.

3. Turn the toggle switch next to Snap windows to off.

If you want, you can also click on the Snap windows option to expand it. Doing so will display several different options that you can check or uncheck based on your requirements. Spend some time here to familiarize yourself with the different choices.

Once you are done making your selection, simply close the Settings window.

B. Disable Snap Layout via Registry

You can also disable the Snap Layout feature by tinkering with the registry. The process is simple enough, and you can directly disable the Snap Assist documentation here by tweaking and creating a few registry entries.

1. Press Windowskey + R to open the Run dialog box. Type regedit and press Enter.

2. Navigate to or type the following path in the bar at the top of the editor and press Enter:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

3. Right-click the left pane, hover the pointer over New, and select DWORD (32-bit) Value.

4. Name this value EnableSnapAssitFlyout.

5. Double-clicking this newly created DWORD and entering 1 or 0 in the Value data first activates the Snap Layout, while the second disables it.

6. Close Registry Editor and you will see that this new option is gone from your windows.

Inference

The Snap Layouts feature is one of the more notable new additions to Windows 11 and is a highly refined option to help you better manage your workflow. But if you feel that it is hindering the way you work, you can very easily disable it through the options provided.
