Windows 10 offers a feature that can notify whenever a connected USB device has a problem. It can be with devices you've just plugged into your computer or devices like printers, external storage devices, etc. It usually occurs when the computer is unable to recognize the device. That said, many times these errors are false positives. You can easily get it as your device is working fine.
Although not recommended, but if you get the error too many times and like every time you plug in a USB drive, then it's best to turn off the USB Problems in Windows 10. In this post, we will show you how shows how you can turn it off or on.
Fix 1. Change USB Settings in Windows Settings
1. Press the Windows Key + I shortcut to open Settings
2. Navigate to Devices> USB
3. Uncheck the box for option— Notify me if there are any problems connecting to the USB device.
Fix 2. Change NotifyOnUsbErrors value in Windows Registry1. Press Windows Key+ S hotkeys together to launch the search windows. Inside the text area, type regedit and press Enter. When UAC prompts, press Yes to launch Registry Editor.
2. In the address bar, copy / paste the below path and press Enter. Alternatively, one can also use the navigation panel on the left side -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\USB
3. Switch to the right pane and right-click the NotifyOnUsbErrors entry.
4. Here, select the modify option then create a new 32-Bit DWORD value.
Note: Even if you are on 64 bit operating system, you just need to generate 32 bit DWORD key-value.
5. Next, put 1 below the value data to turn on the USB crash notification. To turn it off, you can change it to 0.
