Cbs.Log Causes High Disk Usage in Windows 10

This guide includes step-by-step instructions to fix the following issue in Windows 10: PC is very slow due to high disk usage caused by CBS LOG file operation.

Component-Based Services (C: \ Windows \ Logs \ CBS \ CBS.log), which is a log file maintained by Windows to store information about components that are installed or uninstalled during an update. and save details and results when running System File Checker (SFC / scannow) command to repair corrupt Windows files.

When the CBS.LOG file goes over a certain size, the cleanup will rename the file to CbsPersist_Date_Time.log and then try to compress it to the .cab file (s). But if CBS. LOG exceeds the size of 2GB, the uncompressed cleanup results in very high disk performance. Also, you may run out of disk space, because every time the cleanup fails, create a new 100MB .cab file inside the C: \ Windows \ Temp folder.

The above issue is a known error in Windows 7/8/10 and in Windows Server 2008/2012, and the only way to work it around is to delete the CBS.LOG file and all the .CAB files inside C: Manually the \ Windows \ Temp 'folder.

Fix: CBS.LOG Causes High Drive Activity and Fills Hard Drive.

3. Now navigate to the folder C:\Windows\Temp

4. Delete all .cab files.

5. When done, restart your PC.
