Windows Spotlight is a feature included in all versions of Windows 10 which downloads pictures from Bing and displays them on your lock screen. Users are also given a feedback option whether they like the picture and the information regarding the location are also mentioned. This is a very popular feature among all Windows users which adds color to your lock screen.
Many users complained that all of a sudden, their Spotlight didn’t function properly. Either it disappeared or the same picture was displayed every time. This can be due to a number of reasons. Either you have a proxy setting enabled or the spotlight folder is corrupted. We have come up with a number of solutions to help you solve this problem
Solution 1: Restart Spotlight
1.Right-click on the desktop and click Personalize.
2.Select the Lock Screen tab.
3.In Background panel, switch from Windows Spotlight to a Picture or the Slideshow.
4.Click OK to confirm the selection.
5.Log off and log in.
6.Navigate to Lock screen and enable Windows Spotlight again.
Solution 2: Cleaning Spotlight assets
1.Right-click on the desktop and open Personalize.
2.Open the Lock Screen tab.
3.Under Background, switch from Windows Spotlight to a Picture or the Slideshow.
4.Now, navigate to:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
5.You’ll need to enable Hidden Folders in order to access the files.
6.In Assets folder, press Ctrl + A to select all files and delete them.
7.Return to Desktop > Personalize > Lock Screen > Background.
8.Enable the Spotlight again and log off.
Solution 3: Reset/Reassign the Spotlight service
1.Right-click anywhere on Desktop and open Personalize.
2.Open Lock screen tab and change the Background from Windows Spotlight to Slideshow or Picture.
3.Confirm with OK.
4.Press Windows key+ R to open the Run command line.spotlight broken on windows 10
Copy-paste the following command and press Enter:
%USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings
5.Right-click settings.dat and rename it to settings.dat.bak
6.Right-click roaming.lock and rename it to roaming.lock.bak
7.Restart the PC.
8.Navigate to Desktop > Personalize > Lock Screen > Background.
9.Enable Windows Spotlight.
Solution 4: Resetting Spotlight settings with Windows PowerShell
1.Open Start.
2.Search for PowerShell, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
3.Type the following command and press Enter:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers *ContentDeliveryManager* | foreach {Add-AppxPackage "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -register }
4.Restart your computer.
After completing the steps, Spotlight should start working again on your Windows 10 installation after re-enabling the feature using the Settings app.
