How To Free Up Hard Drive Space On Windows 10

You need to free up disk space on your computer’s hard drive to help it run effectively. When you free up disk space, you’re essentially cleaning unused files and fragments of data off of your hard. If you can’t free up enough disk space for your needs, you may even have to replace your hard drive with one that has more capacity.
The Ways To Free Up Hard Disk Space On Windows
Way 1: Deleting junk files using Storage sense
1.Open Settings>System>Storage app by clicking on its icon in the left-side of the Start menu
2. Under Storage sense, click on Change how we free up space automatically
3.Check the Delete temporary files that my apps aren't using option.
4.Use the drop-down menus, and select how to delete the recycle bin files and files that you're storing in the Downloads folder. Options available, include:
  • Never.
  • 1 day.
  • 14 days.
  • 30 days.
  • 60 days.
5.Click the Clean now button
Configuring Storage sense
While you can use Storage sense at any time manually, it's recommended to enable the option to run maintenance automatically.
In order to allow Storage sense to run automatically when you're running low on space
Use the Run Storage sense drop-down menu, and select one of the following:
  • Every day.
  • Every week.
  • Every month.
  • When Windows decides.

After completing the steps, Storage sense will run automatically depending on your configuration.
Way 2: Remove temp files using Settings
1.Open Settings>System>Storage app by clicking on its icon in the left-side of the Start menu
2.Click the Free up space now
3.Check all the items you want to delete
4.Click the Remove files button.
Way 3: Remove temporary files using Disk Cleanup
1.Open up This PC. Right-click on the drive where Windows 10 OS is installed and click Properties.
2.Under the General tab, click Disk Cleanup button.
3.When you see the Disk Cleanup dialog box, click Clean up system files button.
4.Finally, under Files to delete section, select Previous Windows installation(s) and also select Temporary Windows installation files, and then click OK button to remove files from previous Windows 10 build to free up disk space.
Way 4: Turn off hibernation to free up drive space
1.Open Start, tyoe Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
2.Type powercfg /hibernate off and then press Enter key to turn off the hibernation feature and free up space.
Way 5: Uninstall apps, programs and games
1.Open Settings>Apps>Apps & features app by clicking on its icon in the left-side of the Start menu
2.Use the Sort by drop-down menu, and select Size to identify the apps, programs and games wasting the most space more quickly
3.Select the app you want to remove, and click the Uninstall button.
4.Click the Uninstall button again.
Way 6:Move files, apps, games, programs to an external hard drive
Move files on a new location
1.Open File Explorer.
2.Navigate to the folder with the content you wish to move.
3.Select the items you wish to relocate.
4.Under "Home" tab, click the Move to button.
5.Select the Choose location option.
6.Select the new drive D, E,F....
7.Click the Move button.
After completing these steps, you'll have to repeat the same instructions to move other files and folders to the new location
Save new files to the new location automatically
1.Open Settings>System>Storage app by clicking on its icon in the left-side of the Start menu
2.Under More storage settings, click the Change where new content is saved
3.Using the drop-down menus, select the location to save files automatically for each content type.
4.Click the Apply button
Move apps, programs and games to a new hard drive D, E, F....
1.Open Settings>Apps>Apps & features app by clicking on its icon in the left-side of the Start menu
2.Select an app, programs or game.
3.Click the Move button.
4.Use the drop-down menu to select the location.
5.Click the Move button again.
Once you've completed the steps, repeat the same instructions to move other apps or games to the new drive.
